PGA VISITS MIGRANT CENTRE IN CANADA, MEETS PM TRUDEAU
The President of the General Assembly has arrived in Ottawa for an official visit to Canada today. Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa will meet the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussen; Ms. Espinosa will also have a bilateral meeting with the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, Chief Perry Bellegarde.??
The PGA considers Canada a global model for the positive benefits of migration to host countries and communities.
The President is also visiting today the Bruyere Centre for Immigrants, an Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO). This project provides support to immigrant women and their families as they integrate and settle into Canada.?
The IWSO works closely with government, volunteers, and the private sector to support immigrant communities in the areas of integration, language interpretation and crisis intervention and abuse counselling.?
While in Canada, H.E. Maria Fernanda Espinosa will also grant interviews to?the Globe & Mail and CTV Television Network.?
The delegation includes a?senior adviser, the communications team coordinator and her personal assistant.
Travel costs will be covered by the Regular Budget of the Office of the President of the General Assembly. The PGA will be back in the office tomorrow.
ESPINOSA MARKS 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM
The President of the General Assembly is marking 16 Days of Activism to eliminate violence against women and girls in the world. Yesterday, Orange Day, Ms. Espinosa issued a?saying that: “violence against women and girls is one of the most persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world.”
The PGA partnered with 蘑菇视频 Women to galvanize action and to call for an end of all forms of violence against women and girls.
The 16 Days of Activism will conclude on 10 December, Human Rights Day.
