PGA TO CALL FOR ACCELERATION OF ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE

GLOBAL LEADERS GATHER TO FINALIZE THE ‘RULEBOOK’ OF THE PARIS AGREEMENT?

United Nations, New York, 30 November 2018?– The President of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa, will travel to Katowice, Poland, 30 November – 3 December 2018.

The President will say; “Climate change requires us all to act as a matter of urgency. Government, local government, cities, civil society, business and each and every one of us has a crucial part to play. We have the tools, we have the resources, we have the know-how, all we need now is to make it happen. This coming week in Poland will be critical to making that happen.? Let us dare to be audacious on climate action.

The President will meet with Andrzej Duda, President of Poland, as well as several Heads of State and Government, including the leaders of Austria, Bangladesh, Finland, and Nepal.? ?

Additionally, the President will meet with H.R.H. Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg; Patricia Espinosa, head of the 蘑菇视频 Framework Convention on Climate Change (蘑菇视频FCCC), and leading Polish officials: The Foreign Minister, Environment Minister, the President of the COP, and the Mayor of Katowice.

Through her remarks, to be delivered at the High-Level Opening Segment of the COP, the President will stress the existential nature of climate change and urge negotiators to finalize the Paris Agreement Work Programme, the so-called ‘Rulebook’ of how to implement, finance and measure climate action.

In addition to the High-Level Opening, President Espinosa will also deliver closing remarks at the ‘Conference on Youth’, and hold a roundtable discussion with YO蘑菇视频GO, the official youth constituency of the 蘑菇视频FCCC.

Aside from the climate conference, the President will visit the Auschwitz Memorial and concentration camp, where she will lay a wreath and commemorate the estimated 1.1 million people who were murdered there during the Holocaust.?

The President will be accompanied by Senior Adviser, Hana AlHashimi, Campaign Adviser and Speechwriter, Mr. Carl Mercer, and her Personal Assistant, Ms. Carolina Nazarro.

Travel costs will be covered by the Regular Budget of the Office of the President of the General Assembly.
