IN FINLAND, MS. ESPINOSA MEETS WITH YO蘑菇视频G PEOPLE ON PEACE AND SECURITY
The President of the General Assembly, Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa, is in Helsinki, Finland, to take part in the First ?
This morning she held a bilateral meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Finland, H.E. Paula Risikko. Both leaders talked about the role of parliaments and the multilateral system.
The PGA also met with the Foreign Minister of Finland, H.E., Mr. Timo Soini, and other Finnish authorities.
In her keynote address at the plenary session of the Symposium, the PGA highlighted that Youth, Peace and Security is one of her seven priorities, and that young people are agents of change.
She outlined examples in which youth helped to foster inter-communal dialogue in Kenya, and to consolidate peace in countries such as Sierra Leone, Liberia, and other nations.
Ms. Espinosa also noted challenges faced by youth today, and that six hundred million young people – a third of the total youth populations – live in fragile and conflict-affected states. The PGA said that more must be done to reach out to young people who are living in such conditions.
Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa addressed the importance of gender equality, decent work and the support for young migrants and refugees.
The PGA concluded her remarks by saying that the world must improve youth participation in national and international decision-making. She encouraged Member States to include young people in their delegations and to work closely with the Office of the Secretary-General Envoy on Youth, Ms. Jayathma Wickramanayake.

And yesterday, I was asked about the start of the 74th session of the General Assembly. I am happy to inform that the opening date will be 17 September, and the date for the general debate will be 24 September 2019.
PGA TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE ON 8 MARCH AT 11 AM
And as we have announced: on Friday at 11 am. here in the Briefing Room, the President of the General Assembly will hold a press conference for all 蘑菇视频 correspondents.
We will start at 11 am, when the PGA will deliver opening remarks for five minutes and take your questions until around noon.
The PGA will also speak about the high-level event WomenInPower, which will take place on 12 March here in New York with female Heads of State and Government.
