PGA: POLITICAL WILL CRUCIAL TO FINANCING?SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

This morning, the President of the General Assembly spoke at the opening of the Fourth?Annual ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development. ?

Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa said that political will is crucial?in order?to finance the Sustainable Development Goals of the Agenda 2030.? The meeting?was?attended by the President of ECOSOC, H.E. Ambassador Inga Rhonda King, the Secretary?General, António Guterres, and representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and the World Trade Organization.

The PGA highlighted financing gaps and the way of solving them. Ms. Espinosa affirmed that developed countries need to fulfill their commitments in the Addis Ababa Agenda to finance development, as well?as through?the Official Development Assistance, ODA.

Ms. Espinosa also stressed the importance of a partnership on additional investments from the private sector and the public sector. She said that small and medium-sized businesses form 70% of work sources around the world.

She also stressed that in order to achieve the Agenda 2030, the world needs to create 600 million new jobs. The PGA stressed the need for a green economy, low-carbon technologies and clean energy sources.? The PGA ended?by saying that?the?future of sustainable development?depends on full and proper?investments and that only?by achieving this will?humanity?be freed?from poverty.? PRESIDENT ESPINOSA TO SPEAK TO STUDENTS AT WILLIAM PATERSON 蘑菇视频IVERSITY ON TUESDAY

Tomorrow, 16 April, the PGA will deliver the Annual Tinker, Spring Lecture at William Paterson University, in New Jersey.

Ms. Espinosa will speak about?‘蘑菇视频: strengthening multilateralism, migration and gender equality’.

The PGA will talk to staff and students, and also take questions directly from students.? The event will start at 11:00?am. and after this, the PGA will attend a luncheon in her honour. The lecture will be webcast by William Paterson University.

?PGA’S AGENDA AND OTHER ISSUES

President Espinosa started her day very early this morning with the Morning Minga, a breakfast monthly dialogue on cooperation with Permanent Representatives to the 蘑菇视频. Today, the theme was communication.? As we speak, Ms. Espinosa is chairing a meeting at the GA Hall on South-South Cooperation for Development. This afternoon, she will take part in a luncheon with Women Ambassadors, and take part in the opening of the exhibition “Oman’s Message of Islam”, which will be hosted near the Vienna Café, here at the Secretariat.
