United Nations, New York, 18 November 2019 The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande?will travel to Abuja, Nigeria on Wednesday 20 November 2019, to participate in the meeting of the Stakeholder Group on Ageing Africa (SGA Africa): The Regional Expert Conference on?The Human Rights Situation of Older Persons?for the purpose of strengthening the protection of the rights of older persons. It is his first official visit to Nigeria since taking over the presidency of the General Assembly, 74th?session.?

During the visit, the President is expected to highlight?his priorities for the 74th?Sessions, mobilize support for multilateralism and rule based systems as the most potent avenues for fostering dialogue and proffering solution to global problems, galvanize momentum for the ?commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations in 2020, necessity of international cooperation to sensitize national governments on the human rights situation of older persons in Africa and raise awareness and encourage accelerated implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The President will also seize the opportunity of his visit to thank the government and people of Nigeria for their support prior to and after his election and inauguration as President of the 74th Session of the GA.? The President will also interact with women’s groups and members of civil society organizations.???

During his visit, H.E. Muhammad-Bande?will?meet with H.E. Muhammadu Buhari, President of Nigeria and other senior government officials including?H.E. Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs?and?H.E. Pauline Talen, Minister of Women Affairs. The President of the General Assembly will also?visit the recently reconstructed 蘑菇视频 house.?

H.E. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande?will depart Nigeria on Monday,?25 November 2019. The President will be accompanied by his Chef de Cabinet Mari?Sk?re, Senior Adviser Alex Tope, his Special Assistant Muyiwa?Waheed?Onifade, Advisor Emanuel De Jesus?Da?Costa Tilman and Communications Advisor Kristina Klein.??

Travel costs will be covered by the PGA’s Trust Fund and the government of Nigeria.
