The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Antony J. Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States of America.
?The Secretary of State thanked the President for his role in strengthening multilateralism and the work of the General Assembly, and expressed support for the priorities identified by the President for the 76th?session of the General Assembly.
?They agreed on the importance of working together on issues such as climate change, COVID-19, human rights, gender equality and the participation of civil society in the work of the organization.?
President Shahid addressed the need to increase the political support to reach universal vaccination against COVID-19 in 2022 and his intention to convene a high-level meeting to discuss that specific issue.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.?
