The President of the 76th Session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today?with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic?Republic of Iran, His Excellency Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian pledged the continued and firm support of Iran to the President of the General Assembly, and his vision “The Presidency of Hope”.
The President commended Iran’s firm commitments in supporting the United Nations and thanked the Minister for the support to his presidency. He stressed that multilateralism is the only way to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and other global challenges. He underscored the necessity of achieving vaccine equity by the end of 2022 as the first step to build back better from the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Foreign Minister supported the call of the President and reaffirmed Iran’s commitments to multilateralism and joint action in tackling global challenges.
Both sides also discussed other relevant topics, such as revitalisation and reform of the United Nations.?
The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
