PGA meets Civil Society Organizations and youth representatives in Serbia

The President of the General Assembly is on his way to New York after concluding his first official visit since taking office.

Mr. Abdulla Shahid travelled to the United Arab Emirates, the Maldives and the Republic of Serbia.

In the last part of his trip, in Belgrade, Mr. Shahid spoke at the opening of an event to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) where he also met the President of Serbia, H.E. Mr. Aleksandar Vu?i?, and other authorities.

Earlier today, the PGA held a meeting with the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Country Team, and later spoke to representatives of Civil Society Organizations, women and youth groups to listen to their concerns on issues such as climate action, youth empowerment and gender.

Mr. Shahid took the opportunity to discuss with participants some of his initiatives including the Gender Advisory Board on Gender Equality, his Youth Fellowship for young diplomats from developing countries and the High-Level Meeting ¡®Delivering Climate Action ¨C for People, Planet & Prosperity¡¯, which will highlight best practices and achievements in renewables, in climate finance, and in adaptation. The event will take place on 26 October, in New York.

In Belgrade, the GA President also met the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Mr. Ivica Da?i?, and other members of the House, at the National Parliament Building.

Mr. Shahid granted interviews to local media outlets including RTS TV, Politika and Tanjug News Agency.

The PGA will return to his Office on Wednesday, 13 October.
