The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with?H.E. Alexander Kmentt,?President-designate of the First Meeting of State’s Parties of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).
President-designate Kmentt ?briefed the President of the General Assembly about the preparations for the First Meeting of State’s Parties, to be held in Vienna, ?22 -24 March 2022. ?President-designate express the urgent need for repeating the call made in 1946 for global nuclear disarmament. Ambassador Kmett welcomed the signing of additional member states to this treaty and wished to build on that momentum to raise awareness on the importance of this issue. Mr. Kmentt also extended an invitation to President Shahid to attend the State’s Parties Meeting in the United Nations office in Vienna.
The President of the General Assembly, thanked Ambassador Kmentt for his briefing ?and re-assured of ?his office’s support towards advancing collective efforts toward a nuclear free world.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.?
