The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, Under-Secretary General for the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.
Under-Secretary General Voronkov briefed President Shahid on the work of the United Nations Office on Counter-Terrorism (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOCT) in supporting Member States to prevent and counter terrorism. Mr. Voronkov also updated PGA on the preparation of the Global Congress of Victims of Terrorism scheduled to be held in July 2022.
President Shahid underlined the importance of undivided attention by the international community to counter terrorism agenda and reaffirmed his commitment in this regard. He commended the work of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOCT in supporting Member States in their effort to prevent and counter terrorism, as guided by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Global Counter Terrorism Strategy.
They also discussed, ?counter-terrorism matters in the context of Our Common Agenda and the role of youth in preventing violent extremism and countering terrorism.
The meeting took place in the President¡¯s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
