The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, delivered remarks during the ECOSOC side-event on COP26¡¯s outcomes convened by H.E. Mr. Collin Vixen Kelapile, President of ECOSOC, on 14 December 2021.
In his remarks, the President noted that to ensure a truly sustainable recovery, policies aimed at keeping global warming at or below 1.5 and tackling the COVID-19 pandemic need to be aligned. ?He also committed to using the convening powers of the General Assembly to foster political consensus, raise awareness, and maximise the United Nations system to forge multi-sectoral partnerships.
The President thanked H.E. Mr. Kelapile for supporting many of the President¡¯s initiatives and events relating to climate action, debt and sustainable COVID-19 recovery, and reiterated his support for President ECOSOC and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ system to ensure the commitments made at COP26 are achieved.
