Starting with the topic of migration. The President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, held a briefing this morning with the 蘑菇视频 Network on Migration, for civil society and other stakeholders.
In today’s preparatory meeting, President Shahid noted millions of people have migrated or been displaced in the past two years because of political instability, severe economic hardships, and climate and weather-related disasters.
He noted that restrictive migration-related policies have become more prominent across the globe, leading to possible systemic risks in the full realization of the SDGs and gains in human development.
Today’s prep meeting is to solicit views from stakeholders for the International Migration Review Forum, and for the multi-stakeholder hearing that will be held in advance. All of that is set for mid-May.

BILATERALS
In terms of who else the President will meet with today. President Shahid has a bilateral with Jan Beagle, the Director-General of the International Development Law Organization or IDLO.
The President also has two meetings with senior representatives of Member States.
He will meet with Militiadis Varvitsiotis, Alternate Foreign Minister of Greece, and later with Dr. Lazarus McCathy Chakwera, President of Malawi

And President Shahid will today film the next in the series of his video podcast, “In Conversation With…”
The latest episode is with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction,?Mami Mizutori, and experts from the Women in Disaster Risk Reduction.
The latest video is expected be available on social media this Friday, 18 March, which is the anniversary of the Sendai Framework.
QUESTIONS
The Spokesperson was asked if the General Assembly was asked to hold a briefing with Ukrainian President Zelensky. The Spokesperson said that no official request has been made.
The Spokesperson was asked whether there is a scheduling conflict between the two reported humanitarian resolutions – one reportedly drafted by Russia for the Security Council and one reportedly by Mexico/France for the General Assembly. The Spokesperson said that for the GA to take action on a resolution, it needs to be translated into the six official languages and made public at least the night before and that has not been done.
The Spokesperson was asked if she could alert journalists if the a resolution is officially submitted before tomorrow’s noon briefing. The Spokesperson said if submitted and made public, she will alert the journalists.
The Spokesperson was asked if she could share a draft. The Spokesperson said that she cannot share a draft because a resolution has not yet been submitted.
The Spokesperson was asked if President Shahid had spoken with President Zelensky since the start of the crisis. The Spokesperson said not to her knowledge but she would double check.
