The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with Mr. Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA).
Commissioner-General Lazzarini briefed President Shahid on the ongoing work of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA in providing services for Palestinian refugees and the operational, programmatic and financial challenges being faced by the Mission.
President Shahid expressed deep concern about the financial situation confronted by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA, which largely relies on voluntary contributions. He underlined the urgent need of the international community to ensure sufficient and predictable financing for Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA.
The meeting took place in the President¡¯s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
