On 31 March 2022, the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, held a coordination meeting with H.E. Ambassador?Barbara Woodward, Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations as the upcoming President of the Security Council for the month of April 2022.
Ambassador Woodward briefed the President on the programme of the work of the Security Council during the UK’s Presidency in April, highlighting its signature events, including a briefing on COVID-19 vaccine delivery, as following up on : the implementation of resolutions 2565 (2021) and 2532 (2020)?on 11 April as well as the Annual Open Debate on Women Peace and Security: Accountability As Prevention: Ending Cycles of Sexual Violence in Conflict,?on 13 April.
President Shahid recognized the importance of these topics and commended UK’s efforts to keep them on the top of the agenda of the Security Council.
The discussions also touched on COVID-19, climate change, the follow-up of the ‘Our Common Agenda’ consultations, as well as the impact on the world of the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
