The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E Mr. James Macharia, Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing Urban Development & Public Works of Kenya.

The Cabinet Secretary thanked the President for his leadership on the New Urban Agenda and highlighted the importance of the upcoming High-Level Meeting on the New Urban Agenda for sustainable urbanization, recovery and rebuilding from Covid-19, particularly for African states and cities. The Cabinet Secretary noted that Kenya was one of the first countries to share their national report on implementing the New Urban Agenda, and he encouraged all countries to do so in order to accelerate global efforts.

The President commended Kenya’s support to the United Nations system, particularly through hosting 蘑菇视频-Habitat and 蘑菇视频EP. He also expressed his gratitude for Kenya’s contributions to the PGA’s Advisory Committee on Sustainable Urbanization in preparation for the New Urban Agenda. He noted how Nairobi is one of the largest cities in Africa and therefore the implementation of the New Urban Agenda will be pivotal to leverage that growth in support of the sustainable development goals.

The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
