The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E Martha Delgado, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico and the President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-HABITAT Assembly, and H.E. Mr Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-HABITAT.
The President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-HABITAT Assembly and the Executive Director of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-HABITAT commended the President on his efforts to mainstream sustainable urbanization, including through setting up an Advisory Committee in support of preparations for the High-Level Meeting on assessing implementation of the New Urban Agenda. They also highlighted the importance of supporting the efforts of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-HABITAT including through adequate financial resources.
The President thanked the President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-HABITAT Assembly and the Executive Director of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-HABITAT for their efforts in promoting sustainable urbanization and towards the New Urban Agenda. In particular, he thanked Executive Director of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-HABITAT and her team for the support and close coordination in preparing for the High-Level Meeting.
Other topics such as climate change, resilience building, responding and rebuilding from the COVID-19 pandemic, were also discussed.
The meeting took place in the President¡¯s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
