The President of the 76th?session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, today met with H.E.?Mrs. Puan Maharani, Speaker?of the House of?People¡¯s Representative?Council.
Speaker?Maharani?informed the President about work undertaken in disaster risk preparedness, including efforts undertaken to engage women more?directly?in this work.
President Shahid congratulated Speaker Maharani on being the?first woman to serve in the position of the speaker of the council.?He noted the appointment?reflects the achievements of Indonesia in the field of advancement of gender equality and women rights.
Both having served in the position of Speaker, they discussed the importance of the role in disaster risk preparedness, and making sure that women, children and other vulnerable groups are not left behind in national and local planning.
Speaker Maharani noted the need to engage Parliamentarians in the work of the United Nations and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ agencies, funds and programmes.?President Shahid highlighted the efforts that he has made to involve Parliamentarians in the current session of the General Assembly.
Among other topics, they also discussed Indonesia¡¯s Presidency of the G20,?recovery from COVID,?HOPE Fellowship and?youth?involvement,?gender equality?and violence against women in politics.
The meeting took place in?the?Bali?Nusa Dua?Convention Center.
