Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Thank you for your active participation in today¡¯s plenary discussion.
As we move forward toward achieving our Sustainable Development Goals, we must keep in mind that sustainable development and the rule of law are interlinked and mutually reinforcing. Both require active engagement of young people
I greatly appreciate your contributions today and take heed of the suggestions on how to better empower youth.
As was emphasized through our discussions: young people are deeply aware of, and concerned with, issues such as corruption, inequality, including gender inequality, data privacy, human rights violations, organized crime, and conflict.
They rightfully want and demand to be part of the process to address these concerns.
Excellencies,
I urge you to take today¡¯s conversation and build on it to address the root causes of crime with evidence-based crime prevention that empowers young people.
The development and implementation of targeted projects which seek to involve young people, especially those living in the most vulnerable communities, can build resilience by providing youth with alternative lifestyles to violence and criminal conduct.
As we do so, we must ensure that the principles of inclusivity, equity, and representation are prioritized.
To holistically address crime prevention we must draw on the perspectives of all youth, regardless of gender, race, religion, or related identity.
