The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, had a coordination meeting with H.E. Ambassador Mr. Ferit Hoxha, Permanent Representative of Albania to the United Nations and the President of the Security Council for the month of June.
Ambassador Hoxha briefed the President on the programme of work of the Security Council during Albania¡¯s ongoing Council Presidency and highlighted their?focus on the inclusion of civil society briefers during the open debates.
President Shahid commended Albania’s signature event on Women Peace and Security and his own priority of mainstreaming the gender dimension across Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵGA processes during the 76th?session. He further commended Albania for focusing on the issue of accountability and strengthening of international law during its Council presidency.
Both sides also discussed the upcoming Annual Report of the Security Council to the General Assembly as well as the first plenary meeting of the GA on 8 June since the adoption of the Resolution 76/262 entitled ¡°Standing mandate for a General Assembly debate when a veto is cast in the Security Council¡±.
Ambassador Mr. Ferit Hoxha emphasized the importance of fostering cooperation and coordination between the principal Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ organs as their work should be seen as complementary.
The meeting took place at the President¡¯s Office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
