The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Mr.?Marcelo?Rebelo?de Sousa,?President of Portugal, on the sidelines of the 2022 United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon.

President?Rebelo?de Sousa?thanked?the President of the General Assembly for his presence in Lisbon and?for the accomplishments of his Presidency of Hope.?

President?Rebelo?de Sousa?also?reiterated Portugal’s support to the?priorities?of?President Shahid’s mandate?and?noted that the war in Ukraine had made his?mission during the 76th?session even more important.

The President of the General Assembly thanked President?Rebelo?de Sousa for the warm welcome in Lisbon and commended Portugal’s dedicated work in the United Nations.?With reference to the historical significance of the ocean both for Portugal and for the Maldives, President Shahid congratulated President?Rebelo?de Sousa on the outstanding work done to host the Conference?and expressed every confidence that the political declaration to be adopted at the end of the event?would?pave the way for?a?healthier?and bluer?future for?the world.

The meeting took place in the?office?of?the?President?of?Portugal at?the Ocean Conference main venue in Lisbon.
