The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Mr.?Ulisses?Correia e Silva,?Prime Minister of Cabo Verde, on the sidelines of the 2022 United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon.

The President of the General Assembly?expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Correia e Silva for?attending the Ocean Conference?and?noted?the importance of the event for?big-ocean states like Cabo Verde and the Maldives.?President Shahid also?affirmed?his confidence?on?the success of the Ocean Conference?and noted?that?the event would?add?a?much-needed new chapter of global ocean action.

Prime Minister?Correia e Silva?thanked the President of the General Assembly for providing a strong voice in support of Small Island Developing States?(SIDS)?and?highlighted Cabo Verde’s environmental priorities.?Furthermore, the Prime Minister?hoped that the planned Multidimensional?Vulnerability Index (MVI)?would allow for the recognition of the specificities of SIDS?in their quest for sustainable development.
