The President of the 76th?session of the General Assembly H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid met today with?Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill, the Secretary General¡¯s Envoy on Technology.
The Envoy on Technology thanked President Shahid for his strong leadership throughout the process of implementing the recommendations in the Secretary General¡¯s ¡°Our common Agenda¡± report, in particular by hosting the five thematic consultations with Member States earlier this year. He briefed the President on his agenda, which would consist of three main areas: (i) to deliver on the proposed Global Digital Compact, (ii) enabling progress on the SDG¡¯s through technology, and (iii) to facilitate internal coordination and coherence within the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ system workstreams.
President Shahid and Mr. Gill agreed on the importance to educate young people in digital technologies, including in research and science, as a power driver of sustainable development.
The meeting took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
