The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Dennis Francis, had a coordination meeting with H.E. Mr. Pedro Comiss¨¢rio Afonso, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Mozambique to the United Nations and the President of the Security Council for the month of May 2024.
Ambassador Comiss¨¢rio Afonso briefed the President on the programme of work of the Security Council during Mozambique¡¯s Presidency, highlighting three signature events to focus on the protection of civilians, the role of the African state in addressing global security and development challenges, as well as the role of women and young people in maintaining peace and security.
Both agreed on the importance of coordination between the Presidents of the two principal bodies of the United Nations.
