Thank you for joining us today at the briefing on the Ocean Conference that is only a week away.
Under the leadership of the co-Presidents, Fiji and Sweden, and continuous guidance from the President of the General Assembly, we have come a long way.
We have a balanced draft ¡°Call for Action¡±, which is on the way to the President of the General Assembly.
I would like to take this opportunity to commend the Permanent Representatives of Portugal and Singapore for their exemplary leadership in facilitating the consultation process on the ¡°Call for Action¡±.
We are delighted to see a continuing increase in the number of voluntary commitments, which have surpassed 300. These are potentially 300 solutions.
I am confident that there will be more registries of voluntary commitments in the coming weeks.
Looking back at the preparatory process so far, I want to thank colleagues from various Secretariat departments, who have been working tirelessly to make this conference a success.
We have now come to the last stretch of the preparatory process and I am encouraged with the progress being made in preparations in all areas, including in registration, security, conference facilities, side events and exhibitions.
As regards partnership dialogues, the Secretariat has been confirming panelists and moderators. And the programme with their names will be posted today on the Ocean Conference website.
I am delighted to see so many prominent experts who will enrich discussions; above all contribute to solutions to save our oceans and seas.
Much of this progress in the preparations for the Conference is thanks to the dedicated leadership of the President of the General Assembly.
