Joint briefing to the Security Council on the twenty-third report of the Secretary-General on the threat posed by ISIL (Da¡¯esh)

On Wednesday, 5 August 2026, the Security Council held a briefing on the twenty-third report of the Secretary-General on the threat posed by ISIL (Da¡¯esh) to international peace and security and the range of United Nations efforts in support of Member States in countering the threat (). Ms. Carmen G. Cantor, Deputy Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) briefed the Council, with Ms. Oguljeren Niyazberdiyeva, Chief, Office of the Under-Secretary-General, United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.

CTED at side events for 2026 Counter-Terrorism Week

The Fourth United Nations Counter-Terrorism Week will be held from Friday, 26 June to Thursday, 2 July 2026. The theme is ¡°A Future Free from Terrorism: Consolidating the Global Commitment to Multi-Stakeholder Approaches to Counter Terrorism through Member States¡¯ Leadership and Action,¡± and will be complemented by a number of side events, which will facilitate discussion of key counter-terrorism priorities under the four pillars of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
