Dear colleagues,
Although I cannot join you in person, I am grateful for the opportunity to share my reflections. Let me start by expressing my profound sense of gratitude and determination. Our joint effort to implement a comprehensive response to conflict-related sexual violence in Ukraine has been crucial and has demonstrated an important lesson: when there is strong political will and leadership from national authorities, when the United Nations is committed and coordinated, and when we can mobilize adequate and timely resources, it is possible to address this issue effectively.
As we celebrate our achievements, let us acknowledge that our work is far from over. As the landscape of the conflict evolves and new challenges emerge, it is imperative that we sustain and indeed increase our momentum to respond effectively to these realities. In the current context of shifting donor priorities and financial constraints, how do we expand and deepen our work? This unified donor strategy, developed and carried out in full collaboration with national authorities, could not be more timely. Since the signing of the Framework of Cooperation in May 2022, my Office has successfully mobilized 11 million dollars, channeled through the EU-supported Joint Programme, the 鈥樐⒐绞悠礽ted Action Project鈥� led by the 蘑菇视频 Action network, and the Team of Experts programmes on accountability, reparations and trafficking for sexual purposes. 蘑菇视频 entities on the ground have also contributed through resource allocations and in-kind support.
Although my mandate currently covers more than 20 conflict countries, I pledge that Ukraine will continue to receive my unwavering support and will remain a priority for my office. I am personally committed to using my advocacy platform with donors to sustain this vital work.
In closing, I urge all partners to remain steadfast in their support. Let us recommit to this cause with renewed vigor, ensuring that survivors in Ukraine continue to receive the protection, justice, and assistance they deserve.
