Informal Ad Hoc Working Group (IAHWG)

About

On 31 July 2025, the Secretary-General presented to Member States the Report of the Mandate Implementation Review, examining how Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ mandates are created, delivered, and reviewed, offering concrete proposals to strengthen each function.

In decision of 2 September 2025, the General Assembly decided, inter alia, to establish an Informal Ad Hoc Working Group of the General Assembly to consider, in its scope, the proposals contained in the report of the Secretary-General and to:

  • Identify principles and follow-up actions in order to improve the creation, delivery and review of mandates;
  • Request the Working Group to begin its work no later than 19 September 2025; and
  • Conclude its work by the end of March 2026.

The General Assembly also requested the Informal Ad Hoc Working Group to provide an update on progress by 15 December 2025.

The establishment of the Informal Ad Hoc Working Group marks a critical step in advancing the reform objectives of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ80 Initiative, reaffirming the central role of Member States in guiding the Organization¡¯s renewal and accountability framework.
