Am I eligible to be a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ intern?
You are eligible if you: (1) are enrolled in or recently graduated (within 1 year) from a Bachelor¡¯s, Master¡¯s, or Ph.D. program; (2) have strong command of English or French; (3) are not the child or sibling of a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Secretariat staff member.
How long is the internship?
Internships last a minimum of two months and a maximum of six months. You must begin before or within one year after graduation.
Are Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ internships paid?
Internships at the United Nations Secretariat are unpaid. Interns or their sponsoring institution are responsible for all costs, including travel, accommodation, medical insurance, and living expenses. Policies on payment may vary across Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ agencies, funds, and programmes¡ªcheck with the specific office or entity for details.
Do I need a visa?
Yes. Interns are responsible for obtaining and financing their own visas for the duty station of their internship. The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ supports this process by providing the necessary diplomatic note and guidance to facilitate your application.
Do I have to pay for travel?
Yes. All travel arrangements and associated costs must be covered by the intern.
Is medical insurance required?
Yes. You must provide proof of medical insurance that is valid globally for the entire duration of your internship.
Do Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ interns need to maintain confidentiality?
Yes. Interns must keep unpublished information confidential and may not publish documents or materials based on such information.
Can I receive academic credit for my internship?
Yes, depending on your university¡¯s policies. Consult your academic institution to confirm whether credit is available.
How do I apply for a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ internship?

- Review the list of available Internship opportunities. You may apply to more than one.
- Read the full job description for each posting. Identify the ¡°Competencies¡± required and include the Job ID number in your cover letter.
- Create or log into your ¡°Inspira¡± profile via the portal. Fill in all required sections (Profile, Education, Work Experience, Languages, etc.).
- Draft your application and cover letter, tailoring your skills and motivations to the specific internship posting. Submit your completed application before the deadline.
- After submission, you may receive an acknowledgment email. Then your application enters pre-screening and selection. Note: no fees are required or approved at any stage of this process.
