Strengthening Synergies Between Climate Action and Sustainable Development
The world is facing interconnected crises¡ªfrom climate change and biodiversity loss to widening inequalities¡ªrequiring integrated responses. Recognizing this, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ DESA and the , in collaboration with , are convening the Seventh Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on 29¨C30 June 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.
About the Conference
Since 2019, the Global Conference on Climate and SDG Synergies has served as a platform for dialogue and knowledge-sharing on integrated approaches to climate action and sustainable development.
Informed by the work of the Expert Group on Climate and SDG Synergy and building on the outcomes of the Sixth Conference, which emphasized the importance of integrated governance, financing and delivery approaches, the Seventh Global Conference will focus on practical pathways for translating integrated and synergistic planning into coordinated implementation.
The Conference will bring together policymakers, practitioners and stakeholders from across sectors to exchange experiences, share lessons learned and identify solutions for strengthening alignment across climate, environment and sustainable development agendas.
The Need for an Integrated Approach
Climate, environmental and development challenges are deeply interconnected, yet responses remain fragmented across institutions, sectors and financing systems. Key trends highlight the urgency:
- Progress on the SDGs is off track, with only about one-third of targets advancing adequately.
- Climate change is intensifying development challenges, affecting livelihoods, ecosystems, and food and water security.
- Global temperatures remain at record levels, increasing risks across multiple sectors.
- Coordination gaps persist, limiting alignment between climate, development and finance systems.
Integrated approaches can improve efficiency, reduce trade-offs, and deliver multiple co-benefits.

Linking Global Dialogue and Regional Action
The Conference will be organized back-to-back with the , strengthening connections between global dialogue and regional implementation in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Conference will also feature the launch of the Asia-Pacific Synergies Report, and provide a timely platform for advancing integrated responses to the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.
Advancing Synergies for Implementation
Since 2019, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ DESA and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Climate Change Secretariat have advanced integrated approaches through the and the global conference series. Countries are increasingly embedding climate and environmental priorities into development planning and national climate strategies.
However, translating these approaches into coordinated implementation remains a key challenge, with gaps in policy alignment, financing and monitoring.
2026: A Critical Window for Implementation
With fewer than five years remaining until 2030, the coming period is a decisive window to accelerate progress:
- New NDCs to 2035 are entering implementation, creating opportunities for stronger alignment with development priorities.
- Global focus is shifting from ambition to delivery, following recent international outcomes.
- 2026 marks a convergence of global processes, including COPs under the three Rio Conventions.
- Regional and global efforts are increasingly aligned, including through ESCAP processes.
The Seventh Global Conference will support practical pathways to translate integrated planning into coordinated implementation, advancing progress toward the 2030 Agenda and beyond.
