Researchers from seven institutions of higher learning have just published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology an article entitled Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵAI member institutions represented among the authors were the Austrian Academy of Psychology as well as Pondicherry University. The study measures personal endorsements of the ten Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵAI principles among university and post-graduate students from Austria, China, Cyprus, India, Nigeria and Slovakia.
These ten principles include addressing poverty through education; building capacity in higher education systems; a commitment to educational opportunity for all people regardless of gender, race, religion or ethnicity; encouraging global citizenship through education; a commitment to the opportunity for every interested individual to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for pursuing higher education; a commitment to human rights, among them freedom of inquiry, opinion and speech; a commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue and understanding, and the unlearning of intolerance; a commitment to advancing peace and conflict resolution through education; a commitment to promoting sustainability; and, finally, a commitment to the principles inherent in the United Nations Charter.
In order to measure endorsement of the ten principles, the scholars created a corresponding Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵAI questionnaire. The study concludes that implementation of the principles should adhere closely to the cultural requirements of the respective society and should be accompanied by thorough informational campaigns about United Nations educational goals.?
