The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid,?participated today?in?SDG Moment?convened by the United Nations Secretary-General.?
In his statement, the President noted that the pandemic has severely?impacted the realisation of the SDGs. And at the same time, he noted,?the SDGs themselves provide?a?universal toolkit to recover sustainably.
The ¡®Decade of Action¡¯ launched in 2020 will now need to be a ¡®Decade of Recovery¡¯ ¨C of recovering sustainably, the President continued.?
The President highlighted how the?five rays of hope – the priorities of his Presidency of Hope -are?intrinsically connected to the SDGs?and maintained that?getting the SDGs back on track?is?our shared responsibility.?
He stressed the need to address?the gaps in political will and resource?constraints and ensure targeted support for the countries in special situations?as we endeavor?to achieve the SDGs.?
The President assured that the?General Assembly will play a part?in?forging?effective collaboration, which is?essential to achieve the SDGs. Let the setback of the pandemic reinforce our determination to recover sustainably and achieve the SDGs, the President concluded.
The Second SDG Moment was attended by nearly?30 heads of government/state that had presented their voluntary SDG national report.?
