The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met with Mr. Francesco La Camera, Director General of IRENA on Monday 4 October 2021 in Dubai.
Mr La Camera pledged the continued support of IRENA for the President’s priorities for the 76th session, including the upcoming High-level Thematic Debate on Climate Action to be convened on 26 October. He stressed that as a multi-lateral organisation IRENA was well placed to support efforts to achieve a just and jobs-creating green transition, including through IRENA’s reports on measuring the socio-economic impacts on jobs. Mr. La Camera also invited the President of the General Assembly to participate in IRENA’s General Assembly in January 2022.
H.E Mr. Shahid welcomed IRENA’s support, and stressed that, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, climate action must remain the international community’s highest priority. The President also underlined the necessity of achieving vaccine equity by the end of 2022, as the first step to build back better from the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The meeting took place in the Expo2020 Dubai Italian Pavilion in Dubai.
