The President of the seventy-sixth session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, participated as a keynote speaker today at the Meeting of the Group of Friends on Children and the SDGs.?

In his intervention, President Shahid stated that safeguarding child rights is a core priority of his Presidency of Hope as part of its focus on protecting and promoting human rights of all. ¡°As world leaders work to deliver on the 2030 promise, children around the globe are standing up to secure their right to good health, quality education, a clean planet and more¡±, the President continued

The President noted that as we approach the anniversary of the ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, there are children across the world who are still facing critical challenges such as poverty, climate issues, degraded environment, school closures, violence and inequality.

President Shahid? highlighted the severe impacts of lockdowns on the physical and mental health of vulnerable children, calling for effective responses to protect children and fulfill their rights by building a sustainable and promising future for them to inherit.
