The proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) in Latin America and the Caribbean poses a growing security risk, with firearms accounting for up to 73% of homicides regionally and 86% of homicides in CARICOM Member States.
The proliferation and trafficking of SALW fuel organized crime, contribute to instability, and create conditions that may be exploited by terrorist groups.
The event will explore the nexus between SALW proliferation, terrorism, and transnational organized crime, while showcasing good practices and lessons learned from across and beyond the region.
It will also identify priority capacity-building needs and promote stronger cooperation in areas such as border management, law enforcement, and information-sharing.
By fostering dialogue and partnership, the event aims to support Member States in strengthening preventive measures and advancing coherent, regionally coordinated responses to counter the illicit flow of weapons and reduce risks linked to terrorism.
This event is organized on the margins of the 2026 Counter-Terrorism week (CT Week) by the Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the United Nations, CARICOM IMPACS, CTED, 蘑菇视频OCT and 蘑菇视频IDIR.
