It supports ten joint Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ flagship initiatives in Africa. The initiatives have been competitively selected based on (a) their proven track record and potential of achieving transformative and impactful results, (b) a strategic value proposition of multiple entities working together, (c) responsiveness to CTC/CTED identified priorities, (d) exceptional value-for money, (d) high innovation potential, and (e) a strong focus on the meaningful integration of human-rights and gender considerations.
The Joint Appeal brings together 16 Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact entities under its ten joint flagship initiatives: CTED, ICAO, IMO, INTERPOL, IOM, OHCHR, OICT, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵAOC, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDP, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵFPA, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵESCO, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵICRI, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOCT, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵODC, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Women and WCO.
Together, the initiatives seek to demonstrate the value of joined-up, multilateral action and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ system¡¯s unique contribution to strengthening the capacities of Member States to counter terrorism and prevent violent extremism across the continent.
The Joint Appeal is directed at Member States to provide resources to fund the joint initiatives through the participating entities facilitated by the Joint Appeal secretariat based in Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOCT.

United Nations Multi-Year Appeal for Counter-Terrorism Launch Event
On 29 June 2021, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOCT, CTED and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵODC as co-chairs of the Resource Mobilization and Monitoring and Evaluation Working Group of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact, launched the 2021-2022 United Nations Multi-Year Appeal for Counter-Terrorism in a virtual side event held on the margins of the 2021 Counter-Terrorism Week.
Lessons Learned
Two consecutive joint multi-year appeals for counter-terrorism have brought Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ entities closer together for coordinated resource mobilization, joint outreach and enhanced programmatic collaboration.
The 2021-2022 Multi-Year Appeal was a step change for making the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ system¡¯s contribution to the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy more visible and transparent. The lessons and recommendations drawn from the appeal are meant to improve the funding of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ system¡¯s collective action on counter-terrorism and the prevention of violent extremism.
