Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy
The Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ General Assembly adopted by consensus the on 8 September 2006. The strategy is a unique global instrument to enhance national, regional and international efforts to counter terrorism. The General Assembly reviews the Strategy every two years, making it a living document attuned to Member States¡¯ counter-terrorism priorities.
Structure and frequency
Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Office of Counter-Terrorism (Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµOCT) organizes briefings to Member States every quarter, chaired by Mr. Raffi Gregorian, Deputy to the Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism and Director of Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµOCT. Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, chairs an Ambassadorial-level Briefing once a year.
Topics of discussion and speakers
Topics of discussion may include, among other things, the evolving terrorist threat landscape, including recent counter-terrorism trends and developments, the implementation by Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµOCT of its mandate in line with the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Global Counterterrorism Strategy, significant counter-terrorism conferences and events, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµOCT's global technical and capacity-building assistance programmes, and strategic counter-terrorism priorities. Speakers may include representatives of Member States, regional and specialized organizations, Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact entities, and civil society organizations. In addition, invited participants may register for the inscribed list of speakers.
