Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Office of Counter-Terrorism (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOCT), through the EU-Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Global Terrorism Threats Facility, organized the first in a series of study visits as part of its support to the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This first study visit took place from 2 to 4 December 2025 and focused on deepening strategic cooperation and sharing good practices on counter-terrorism policy and coordination with key European Union (EU) institutions and agencies in Brussels and The Hague.
During the visit, the NCTC delegation engaged with the EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, and senior representatives from the European External Action Service (EEAS), the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI), the Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (EUROPOL), and the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (EUROJUST).
Discussions focused on enhancing inter-agency collaboration, aligning approaches to emerging terrorism threats, and reinforcing international partnerships. The study visit helped enhance mutual understanding of counter-terrorism priorities and approaches and strengthen linkages between Nigerian and European Union stakeholder. Concrete areas for future collaboration and support were identified.
The visit forms part of a technical assistance package implemented by the Facility to support the NCTC in revising and implementing Nigeria¡¯s national counter-terrorism strategy, in line with the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and other General Assembly and Security Council resolutions. Additional study visits are envisaged to promote sharing of experience with other regions.
