Days after another wave of tragic terrorist attacks, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and the European Union have agreed to work more closely together to fight the scourge that has killed more than 350 people in the past week alone.
In the second annual Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-EU Counter-Terrorism Leaders¡¯ Dialogue held at the United Nations in New York, senior officials from the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ counter-terrorism office and the EU¡¯s security and defense section, exchanged views on common priorities and signed a framework agreement to promote ¡°a new spirit of practical collaboration¡± to strengthen collaboration and have more of an impact in countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
Speaking to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ News ahead of the signing, Vladimir Voronkov, the Head of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, said that the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and EU have been working on common projects since last year, including greater engagement with young people to root out violent extremism.
Pedro Serrano is Deputy Secretary General for Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) and Crisis Response at the European External Action Service (EEAS). He spoke to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ News's Jordi Trujols, on the sidelines of Wednesday¡¯s meeting about the new agreement, and how the United Nations and the EU will work more closely to fight terrorism.
