The MYA for Counter-Terrorism
The Multi-Year Appeal for 2019-2020 marked the first time the United Nations presented a single appeal to support global, regional and national initiatives to combat terrorism and prevent violence extremism. The 2021-2022 Multi-Year Appeal consolidated initiatives from CTED, IMO, INTERPOL, IOM, OHCHR, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDP, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵICEF, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵICRI, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOCT, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵODC, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRCCA and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Women across the four Pillars of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵGCTS) and requested $179 million for 52 projects and programmes at the global, regional, and national levels.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Office of Counter-Terrorism (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOCT) concluded, on 4 March 2022, a hybrid side event on the United Nations Multi-Year Appeal for Counter-Terrorism, a unique fundraising tool that consolidates initiatives by 12 Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ entities on countering terrorism and preventing violent extremism.
Organized on the margins of the High-Level International Conference on Regional Cooperation among Central Asian states on the JPoA for the Implementation of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, the event brought together representatives from Central Asian governments, regional and international organizations, and the diplomatic corps in Uzbekistan.
The side event provided a key opportunity to raise awareness on Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ capacity-building and technical support in Central Asia and showcase successful counter-terrorism projects from the multi-year appeal in the region.
The hybrid event was moderated by Ms. Oguljeren (Jerena) Niyazberdiyeva, Chief of the Office of the Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism. She presented the new Multi-Year Appeal for 2021-2022 as an interactive digital tool that facilitates a dynamic user experience for Member States and potential donors and allows them to search by country, region, thematic priority or implementing partner.
Representatives from Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOCT and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRCCA highlighted success stories of cooperation in Central Asia in the context of the Global Framework on Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Support on Syria / Iraq Third Country National Returnees. The organizers also presented a number of innovative programmes that donors can select through the Multi-year Appeal, e.g. the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOCT Global Counter-Terrorism Programme on Unmanned Aircraft Systems and the Global Programme on Countering Terrorist Threats against Vulnerable Targets.
The event was organized on the margins of the High-Level International Conference on Regional Cooperation among Central Asian States on the Joint Plan of Action (JPoA) for the Implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵGCTS), which took place on 3 and 4 March 2022 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
