5 February 2018 ¨C Evidence of the use, or likely use, of banned chemical weapons in Syria should be met with a meaningful response by the Security Council, the United Nations disarmament affairs chief said on Monday.
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu ?the Council on the work being undertaken by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Fact Finding Mission (FFM) to look into all allegations of the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
New reports by the FFM are pending. Should they conclude that there has been the use, or likely use, of chemical weapons in any of these alleged incidents, our obligation to enact a meaningful response will be further intensified.

23 January 2018 ¨C Applications for the 56th United Nations Graduate Study Programme (GSP) are now being accepted. Every year, the United Nations Information Service at Geneva organizes a two-week study programme at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland for a group of qualified post-graduate students from all over the world. The seminar will take place from 2 to 13 July 2018 and the theme will be: Human rights at a crossroads: where we stand in 2018.
The programme provides an opportunity for outstanding postgraduate students to deepen their understanding of the principles, purposes and activities of the United Nations in relation to this year's theme. Senior officials and experts of the United Nations and of the Geneva-based specialized agencies will give a series of lectures followed by panel discussions. Participants will also work in groups to study issues related to the topic of human rights, under the guidance of United Nations experts.?

26 January 2018 ¡ª The Dag Hammarskj?ld Fund for Journalists is now accepting applications from professional journalists from mainly developing countries for its 2018 fellowship program. The application deadline is March 12, 2018.
The fellowships are available to radio, television, print and web journalists, age 25 to 35, from developing countries who are interested in coming to New York to report on international affairs during the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly. The fellowships will begin in early September and extend to late November and will include the cost of travel and accommodations in New York, as well as a per diem allowance.
